Anyone have a source of new ESDI drives? : For repairs etc. you can reach Symbolics via "David K. Schmidt" <dkschmidt@c : ompuserve.com> . Thanks much for the pointer. : >Also, is it possible to extend the console cable to, say, 50 feet? : : More. Atleast 200 feet should be possible. Wonderful. I'm developing a goal of replacing the overgrown BSD-running PC I'm using as a network terminal with the LispM's console, and finally having a truly comfortable environment.... : Advice? O.k., if you are really a fan, contact Symbolics : and get an Ivory (MacIvory 3, XL1200, XL1201, ...) machine. I'd thought they'd stopped doing hardware. In any case, this kind of implies acquiring a Macintosh of some flavour, doesn't it? The last thing I need is another computer in the house - last count was 37, and that doesn't include the PC carcasses.... : The 3640 is drawing too much power - if you ask me. Actually, I had a special circuit put in for it during some recent remodelling. It'll be right next to the PDP 11/70, since that room's the only one with decent cooling. : If you want to stay with your 3640, make sure you : have enough memory boards and be careful with : your console. Well, I've got quite a collection of spare boards (mostly memory), and four spare chassis. I have three consoles, but two are shot - I think one's got a problem in the high-voltage section, which should be easy enough to deal with when I get sufficiently motivated. The other one just seems plain autistic. It's hard to tell what is supposed to go on internally without any hardware docs - like, does the console actually attempt any sort of processing and video generation, or is it all done remotely by the LispM? : Also make backups from : your tapes - you should transfer the contents over the : network to some other machine. Tapes? Network? Maybe if I can talk Symbolics out of such things for some sort of not-too-exorbitant fee.... Thanks for the info. Dworkin
