I am trying to get a Lisp to C compiler (CLiCC) to compile and run on a Symbolics. The problem is that CLiCC needs to have its own version of the LISP package and Genera will not allow the standard LISP package to be renamed. What I need is a way to dynamically bind everything about the package system while CLiCC is running. This will allow CLiCC to use all of the package manipulation functions (e.g. MAKE-PACKAGE, INTERN) while it is running and be able to clean up by just undoing the dynamic bindings. I have poked around in the package system and thought that I could use the :INVISIBLE option to GLOBAL:MAKE-PACKAGE to make packages outside the package system. Every time I tried to collect them together and use them as the package system the syntax stuff kept tripping me up. Has anyone else tried anything like this?
