Hello,

hmm, we are using barracuda both in our company and with our customers.
Some of them are using these disks in RAID configurations or
in a mix with other (large) disks.

I have seeing them dying.

If you are using them in SCSI 2 mode, these disks (and others)
are very sensitive to cabling problems. Make sure that
you have proper cabling material and make cables as short as possible.
Some workstations do not "like" more than THREE SCSI-2 disks
on one SCSI-2 adapter. For one RS/6000 Model 250 adding a second SCSI bus
solved our problems. Our distributor reports this for some
SUN configurations, too.

Another source of problems is "termination power".

The XL1200 should not have that much problems, because you
only have SCSI-1. But you have to ensure good cooling for
these disks. They are getting very warm and you are not allowed
to use them without cooling.

I haven't been able to mount a 2 GB Barracuda under Genera 8.1.1,
although formatting worked fine.

Greetings from Hamburg,

Rainer Joswig
