Some words from smbolics: if you use :Format SCSI Disk with a Genera prior to 8.3, there's a good chance that it won't work. I think the problem is that it doesn't setup the FEP file system properly so when you do a load world, it takes a flier. When load scans for the world files, it goes nuts. It seems that it will be necessary to issue some new flods to make the whole process bomb proof. Doug Evans at symbolics says that segates are fine. In fact he has a fairly complete list of what works and what doesn't. Further, there are some procedures -- hardware and software -- that must be followed in order to put a new disk in play. If you want to talk to Doug, call him at 1 (800) 824-4263 during west-coast work hours. His email address is devans@netcom.com. If we are all lucky, symbolics will be back on the net soon and these sorts of questions will get the real expert's answers. Let me know what ends up working. I'm thinking of getting some more gigs for our NXP1000s and I assume that the XL experiences will be similar. Jeff Barnett
