As part of my effort to maximize desk space, I am trying to
consolidate onto one desktop computing device: an X terminal;
I am trying to use our XL1200 via an NCD X terminal.
For the most part, this works.  I have run into a problem, however.
Every once in a while, both the XL console and the window on the X
term go crazy with X errors:

[XACT is the X terminal, LIE is the XL]

The same messages show up on both windows.  The X term will show a
pop-up with a bunch of messages, then "press any key to continue".  If
I do so, the popup goes away, and the console goes into the cold load
steam with an error in the X client process.  If I hit either Abort or
Resume (the only two options), it resumes everything normally, but
then a new flurry of errors starts on the X term.  And around and
around it goes.  The only way I've found to get out of this is to
Reset Network.  This isn't acceptable, however, as I would like to
shut off the console eventually.

What causes this behavior?  What is the cure?  I know for a while
Symbolics was selling a network-only XL1200 with no console (XL1201?),
so it must be possible to do everything via the X term, but how?

Any help is appreciated.
