:> Wasn't one of his first actions to abolish open office hours?
: I'm not sure. If that is the case, it means that they must SET a specific
: time that they WILL be available, instead of saying "ok i'm here sometimes
: just drop in." Although it seems like they're less available, for many
: professors it forces them to be MORE available because they are then
: accountable for the time they set as their office hours.
I meant HIS open office hours. Pytte had walk-in hours
for students every Wednesday at 3PM. (might not be the exact time,
but that's the idea) Anyone could come see him without an appointment.
Auston got rid of that.
:> Which actions did you have in mind?
: PCUEL. (You know, that whitepaper.) This was a step in the right
: direction. The problem there is that the campus is too apathetic to care,
: or that people just didn't think it would do any good. PCUEL is one thing
: that, given enough student support, could possibly make changes happen.
: Problem is that every other cursory attempt the school has shown about
: caring for student interests tends to flop, so students are wary of this one
: as well. It's disappointing.
He didn't WRITE the white paper, just appointed the commission.
And even if he did, writing a report, in and of itself, does nothing.
: Uhhh... Technology transfer = more money and recognition for the school. I
: don't see how living north or south side makes a difference... ("useless for
: those of us north of Euclid") If the school were getting more money from
: other places, maybe they could quit selling out to other companies - case in
: point, Pepsi. I have no hard numbers, but most people that I've talked to
: would prefer Coke, or at least like to have the choice of both. Case sold
: out to Pepsi because they would give us more money to "help build a student
: center," which is something that still hasn't happened.
By "North of Euclid" I didn't mean people LIVING northside. I
meant the humanities. When was the last time an anthropologist developed
something the school could patent?
