Anyone else get this in their inbox?
Anyone else kinda pissed about this coming from the University mailing
list? I'm not one for political preachings. Never-the-less my spam
filter marked it junk.
Mael.
TO: Case Faculty and Staff
On Tuesday, November 4, Ohioans will have an opportunity to help
create thousands of new high-paying jobs without raising taxes, by
voting "Yes" on Issue 1.
Issue 1 is the only statewide issue on the ballot. It will allow
the state to issue $500 million of bonds to help create new high-paying
jobs and bring state-of-the-art products to market. Issue 1 does not
raise taxes now or in the future, as repayment of the bonds has already
been factored into the state's long-range financial plans.
Issue 1 is the final part of Governor Taft's Ohio 3rd Frontier
Project that will generate $6 billion in new investment for Ohio's
economy. According to an independent study, Issue 1 will help create
more than 30,000 jobs in Ohio.
Issue 1 is endorsed by the Ohio Chamber of Commerce and has
received tremendous support from business and labor, Republicans and
Democrats, and education leaders throughout Ohio. Almost every major
newspaper in the state has endorsed Issue 1.
Issue 1 will provide financial assistance to support "science and
technology based research and development purposes," including
biomedical and other research, new product development and
commercialization, and support for public and private institutions of
higher education, among others. Passage of State Issue #1 would help
support Case's current and future efforts in these areas.
We are strongly supporting Issue 1 because it will stimulate much
needed economic growth in our state. It will lead to a more dynamic
economy and help improve the quality of life for all Ohioans. We urge
you to vote "Yes" on this important jobs creation issue.
You can find more information about Issue 1 at
http://www.ohiobusinessvotes.org and then click on "Election Issues."
You do have to register to access the site, but there is no cost to do
so and your information will not be distributed to any other entities.
Please remember to vote "Yes" on Issue 1 on November 4.
President Edward M. Hundert, M.D.

I'm not one for political preachings. Never-the-less my spam > filter marked it junk. I didn't receive it, though I'm neither faculty nor staff. Anyway, I have three problems with it: 1. It seems to me inappropriate for resources available solely to certain internal elements of the University to be used for political stumping of any sort. 2. Endorsement of particular political views by the University is contrary to the open forum of debate required for any academic institution (not to mention that endorsement by the University seems to indicate that all members of the University community are in agreement, which I can guarantee you they are not). 3. This e-mail reads like a television ad. I mean, come on, we're all smart people here. We can make an objective assessment of Issue 1's merits without having it beaten into our brains with nearly every single paragraph starting with the phrase "Issue 1". Barry

People do it all of the time, though, right or wrong. Since this is a private institution, they, and companies alike, can ask their employees to consider voting a certain way on a certain topic. I agree it may be gauche, but it's still a perogative. > 2. The average IQ and schooling of people that spend a great portion of their lives here is quite high. No need to insult us! - Paul
