Sad to hear that the news server is going away next month. Though it's 
been dead here, and the server doesn't subscribe to as many active 
groups, I think Usenet would still be viable if more people knew about it.

	I read news several times every day, using tin.  Web interfaces
like Google Groups are abysmal.

According to what they sent us for Case Daily, the whole news server 
will be shut down. Google Groups are abysmal and far too uninclusive. I 
don't even know what ATT-Yahoo provides. My old ISP had a decent news 
server but I've been using the Case one now since 1999. I never posted 
much here, but I liked being able to read it all.

This is what the notice said:

"Information Technology Services (ITS) is discontinuing the Usenet 
newsgroup service to the university as of December 5. According to ITS, 
advances in collaboration technology have provided adequate replacements 
for the services this newsgroup once provided. Alternatives such as 
Google Groups and commercial Usenet providers are available."

They aren't shutting off usenet access in general are they?
