Does anyone know of a utility to copy data between 2 cifs servers that will
keep ACL's and file ownership? Something akin to rdist on unix.

I need to copy a large amount of data between two network appliance filers
and would like to start seeding the data now so that the day I cut users over
to the new filer, I just have to do a quick refresh of the days changes to the
target.

I have tried robocopy v1.96. It seems to keep ACL's but not file ownership.

Thanks,

Jeff.

Jeff, I think you have to use the right arguments with robocopy:

/COPY:copyflag[s] : What to COPY (default is /COPY:DAT).
                (copyflags : D=Data, A=Attributes, T=Timestamps).
                (S=Security=NTFS ACLs, O=Owner info, U=aUditing info).

So try like /COPY:DATSO

as an alternative...
xcopy /k /o /x /s /e <source> [destination]
(comes with windows)
I've done large amounts of file transfers using it--up to 100 gigs or more
and it works fine (but it's slow)

There are also flags to select files by date. There's a flag to exclude
some files as well, but it's clumsy.

Google it and you'll get a hit on microsoft's web site with all the
parameters and explanations.

By far the quickest way would usually be to do a backup and a restore,
however, if you've got reasonably fast backup hardware.
