I don't know if info on this has been posted before, but this guy is on
a roll to get a major ride culminating in a rally in D.C. on Aug. 20.
There is lots of info both a the topica site and the homepage
http://www.bikeroute.com. The rally in officially called "Cycle America
2000" and is designed as a non-motorized salute to Congress for
including biking in the TEA-21 federal transportation authorization as
well as promoting the cross-country trail. They have a permit to ride a
loop around the Capitol, along the Mall, up to the White House/Freedom
Plaza, and back to the Capitol. There will also be coordinated meeting
points and group rides downtown to join in. Sounds like a great event,
as long as it isn't too Augusty weather-wise. Hope to see you all
there!
Peace-
Phil K.

Only 55 days Left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1) As per the words above , can I let you in on a little secret?
'Wanna greet each new day with joyous anticipation? 'Wanna feel
alive, filled with purpose and move forward knowing that every step
you take is making a difference?
If so, get in step with the National Bicycle Greenway ride from
wherever you are to Washington DC this soon upcoming summer. This is
so because as you give all of yourself on a day in day out basis, you
can take comfort in the knowledge that your actions will not only be
celebrated now but in the news media and history books of the
future. It is those of us NBG who will be looked upon as the true
visionaries of our time because we had enough foresight to go against
the grain of what most see as their only reality - the car centered
lifestyle that is destroying our planet.
Even if it doesn't work for you to join us on the ride, you can still
be with us in spirit. How? Well before you use public transportation
to join us in DC next August, you can at least make the sacrifice of
a Car Free summer. Perhaps you can keep a scorecard at your work for
all to see checking off the number of days you didn't use your car
to get there. You might even label it as "Car Free for the NBG". As
your winning streak grows and grows, you will know how much of
themselves our riders are giving to make their rides to DC real.
Just as for many on the road to DC, the ride will be any easy one,
giving up one's automobile will also follow a comfortable flow. For
those who experience a difficult transition in becoming Car Free,
however, it is important to know that such struggle is, in many ways,
similar to the hardest part of most any big challenge. Just getting
started.
In the same way that there will be many on the ride faced with the
difficult task of getting into a comfortable groove, giving up the
car, if even for a summer, may also begin with turbulence. But as
any long distance cyclist will tell you, as you power through the
tough stuff, the reward of growing new muscles that you never knew
you had, both mental and physical, is priceless beyond compare.
Join our ride, either in spirit or on the bike road to DC. See you
there! Soon!!!!
2) Where's the rest of news? Where's the rest of news? I have heard that a
lot over the last couple of weeks. It is at least reassuring to know that
some of you are really getting in there and reading the full range of
these transmissions! But maybe not the fine print. So I will try to make
the location for the rest of the goods a teence more conspicuous. All of
