Has anyone else here eaten at Yannick Cam's (relatively) new place at the Radisson Plaza in Alexandria? And if so, what did you think of it? After an initial mention when it first opened, Phyllis Richman has completely ignored Yannick's: it doesn't even appear on her most recent list of good restaurants in the area. And in the most recent Washingtonian list of 100, the review of Yannick's is extremely grudging in giving it two stars, complaining about such central aspects of a good meal as the fact that the hotel's valet parking service evidently isn't very efficient. Yet on Mimi Sheraton's list of 50 places in North America "worth the trip" Yannick's is the only place in the DC area. I've eaten there three times: once in a party of four, once in a large group (ca. 30 people), and once just as a couple. Each time I had one of the "tasting menus" (5-7 courses) and each time it was outstanding. Not cheap, naturally enough, but not as outrageous as things used to be at Le Pavillon, and surely the DC area can support at least a couple of places that focus on genuinely luxurious food. I'm just puzzled that Yannick's hasn't gotten more attention than it has: it seems to me arguably the best restaurant in the area (though admittedly not located very conveniently). Anyone else have an opinion or a theory? --Steve Anderson
