Thank you to everyone who posted about eating near the Arena Stage. My girlfriend and I went to see Pirandello's "It's the Truth (if You Think It is)." The acting was top rate and the play itslef was good. We ate at 700 Water Street. We ordered the pre-theater dinner as recommended by the net. The appetizers were *excellent*! The caesar salad was one of the best my girlfriend has ever tasted (I agree), and the cream of mushroom soup was unusually tasteful -- especially considering how bland it can be. It was well-seasoned. Cris ordered the chicken piccata with baked potato. She liked the chicken but regrets ordering a potato. It was good quality, just boring. I ordered the prime rib (i think it was a 10 oz cut) with fettucine. I ordered the meat rare and it was so tender I could cut it with a fork (one arm is in a cast, so this made life easier). The juices were there in just the right quantity. Their horseradish was nothing to write home about (you know it's good when I have to get *that* picky about it :-). The fetuccine was good. For dessert they served chocolate mousse, cheesecake, or a torte. We both picked the mousse. Very good -- not the best I've ever had, but very good. Neither one of us could finish it, and I've been known to eat a lot. The dinner (everything above) cost $16.95/person. With hot tea and tax, the total came to $40.22. Highly recommended. The view of the water was nice, not awe-inspiring and the rooms were dark. Cheers! Greg gsurbeck@eng.umd.edu
