I think you are describing the Inn of Magic that used to be in
the Bethesda/Chevy Chase area (exact location escapes me). I
went there many times in the 80's. They were origionally in
an old (huge) house that was really nice and set up the way
you remember---bar with card tricks in one room and a full magic
show in the dining room after dinner.

They were so successful that they moved to Wheaton
Plaza which was much larger, but less charming. Unfortunately,
they were unable to sustain enough business to pay for the larger
venue and eventually they folded.

They Inn 'O Magic was mostly the result of the team of Bob Sheets
and Steve Spiel (sp?). I hear that Steve went out to the West
coast after the breakup. You can still see Bob doing magic at
local fairs (e.g. MD Renaissance Festival, Montgomary County Fair).
