-------- Just thought I'ld mention a new turkish restaurant on 8th and E St. S.E., (one block from Eastern Market Metro). It's called Istanbul, which isn't too original, but the food was excellent. The proprietor claimed it to be the only turkish restaurant in D.C. They have a very nice decor, good for a romantic dinner, yet not too stuffy. Their appetizers are very nice, ranging from hummous and baba ganoush to 'patlican kizartma(?)' which is eggplant with garlic and yogurt. Main courses are very well prepared, try the 'doner kebob' or any other lamb dish. I'ld also recommend a glass of 'raki' for starters (kind of like ouzo or pernod). Prices about $3.- to $5 for app. and $10-$15 for main course. Also, if you're in the neighborhood check out Park Cafe on 13th between Mass and East Capital (on east side of Lincoln Park) for latin type food, or La Lomita, on 13th and Penn S.E. for good mexican and the best margeritas in DC.
