Let's see. Downtown, there is Tony Changs, a nice BBQ place.
They serve Mongolian BBQ and Firepot. You obviously are
familiar with the BBQ offering; Firepot is a boiling water
thing which you dip various small pieces of food in to cook,
eat them, and when you are done you have a very nice broth
which you can consume.

College Park, MD there is House of Gengis Kahn (which may have
just changed it's name to something else) on US1; good BBQ there
too. No Firepot.

Laurel MD there is a place on Route 198 which looks OK, has the
big gas fired BBQ.

Just a note on Mongolian BBQs; all of the above are gas fired,
and have solid cast iron cook surfaces. These cook a fine meal,
there is no doubt. There is a different type, which uses hard-woods
to burn, and has a top made of metal "slats" pushed together to
form a solid cooking surface. This second type has the advantage
that some of the smoke flavor from the wood fire gets up to the
cook surface between the slats and gives a nice flavor.

The last wood fired one that I know of in the DC area was at the
House of Liu in Landover MD, who is since out of business. There
is a place that is owned by relatives of the owner of House of
Liu, Beijing in Greenbelt, who own a wood fired BBQ, but they are
unable to operate it because of some rule in PG county which
prohibits commercial wood fired cooking devices, or something like
that...

Anyway, the taste is better (IMHO) from the wood fired, and if we
could get an exception granted to the nice folks at Beijing it would
allow more people to taste this wonderful cuisine as it should be
(certainly the Mongols didn't use the gas-fired version...).

I would be glad to spearhead the effort, and help provide tasty
bribes for the elected officials (JUST JOKING!).
