Some (long) parts of the Capital Beltway in Prince George's
County were posted at 65 and even 70 MPH prior to 1973.

In Montgomery County, east of Md. 97 (Georgia Avenue),
the limit was 60 or 65. It was 50 west of Md. 97, over
to the 270 Spur, where I think the limit went back to 60.

If memory serves, most of the Virginia Beltway was 60.
