I recently did an 1800 mile drive from Denver to New York. It really hurt because the speed limit in Colorado is 75, and I was in a 24' Ryder truck with a car attached to the back and a governor that wouldn't let us get over around 65mph!!! So we were driving around 10mph under the speed limit through that state. The amazing part is that we were passing people!!! In the MD/DC/VA area, the general rule seems to be to drive around 10-20mph over the speed limit (I think 75 is a very reasonable speed). But in Colorado, people were routinely going 10-15mph UNDER the speed limit. I made the same observation in Iowa and Indiana where the speed limit was 65 and people were driving around 55-60. In Ohio, people did the speed limit. It wasn't until New Jersey that traffic started moving at about 10-20 over the speed limit. Why do people go so slow out there? Is this typical of states in the middle of the country? I have to say that EVERYONE in Colorado drove in the right lane and passed in the left. Almost nobody ever stayed in the left lane when they weren't passing.
