In Ohio, for example, the following rules apply: 15 in alleys 20 in School Zones 55 on all rural roads except freeways (ie in Townships) On Township subdivision streets and dirt roads, the trustees can, lower the limit to no less than 25 25 on most streets in Cities and Villages, except: 35 on State Routes and through highways outside business districts 50 on controlled access roads and expressways 55 or 65 on Freeways (complicated rules) In Cities and Villages, the Council can request a lower limit by petitioning the Director of the State DOT, stating an engineering study for rationale. They may RAISE a limit (up to 55) if conditions warrant (like a 4 lane road through undeveloped land) -- Paul S.
