Amen. I'm from MI, and have been out here about 2 months, and it is
driving me crazy. VA drivers seem unfamaliar with the concept of lane
discipline, and the average travel speed around here is sooo slow (when
traffic clears, grumble grumble). People stop in the middle of the road
for no apparent reason, fail to use turn signals *at all*, and cut you
off at almost every opportunity.

One thing I have noticed: In Detroit, if someone is about to cut you off
and you beep the horn, it's essentially just a "screw you"
announcement--you don't expect the sounding of the horn to actually
alter the behavior of the person that is about to cut you off. Here,
though, people actually react to horns, which was amusing at first and
is now a fairly pleasant circumstance.

DC and MD drivers are also pretty bad, over all, but they seem to be a
bit better than VA drivers.
