Judy,

I live in Silver Spring and commute to Laurel. I travel on 495 from Georgia
Avenue heading east and use I-95 north from anytime between 7:30am and 9am. I
have only encountered a back-up once in two years of commuting on that section
of the beltway. Meanwhile, the west-bound lanes virtually always resemble a
parking lot! As a reverse commuter, this fact does brighten my day in the
mornings.

In the reverse direction I take Rt 29, since I've found that even in the
evenings, the same stretch of road between I-95 and Georgia Ave. is subject to
slow traffic and numerous delays. You may not be slowed too much, however,
since you'd be taking the New Hampshire Avenue exit. Hope this helps.
