The truly aggressive driver *does* act irrationally. But speeding, tailgating and even reckless driving does not automatically make a driver "aggressive." For example, exceeding the limit is not "speeding" until its "reckless," since 85% of all drivers exceed the limit by 5-10 mph and by 10-20 during rush hour (when conditions permit). Hence, "speeding" does not automatically make one an aggressive driver, unless 85% are all "aggressive," and that simply is obviously not true. Also, tailgating is not a sign of the aggressive driver. In rush hour, 85% of all drivers are 1-2 car lengths apart at 60-70 mph, when they should be 6-7 car lengths. They stay close together so that they do not "lose their place in line," while trying to pass slower traffic. Now a valid sign of aggressive driving is reckless driving, provided its *deliberate*. People who are inexperienced, may be a bit reckless, without being aggressive. The root problem being inexperience. The drunk may be reckless, but the root cause is not aggressive driving, but being intoxicated. So recklessness has to be deliberate to make a driver "aggressive." ------- The reason I am pointing this out is that often "self-righteous" assholes "hog" the left lane and cause certain out-of-control people to do stupid and/or aggressive things when driving. Granted, the "self-righteous" asshole did not force the other driver to do something wrong. But consider that "lane-discipline" is so well practiced in Germany and most of Europe, that "keep-to-the-right" is the rule, not the exception. As a result, even with a suggested speed limit of 85 mph and most driving around 100+ mph, the death rate is slightly lower than here, per miles driven, adjusted for all factors except speed itself. This implies that the lack of "lane-discipline" is just as serious as aggressive driving in the cause of deaths.
