The only time there is no fog is when it is raining ;-) > Rosalie in MD CA does have plenty of fog. Fresno (in the central Valley, a good distance from the coast) was particularly bad... but my worst fog experience was on a train coming home from Eugene at Christmas in 1986. Just south of Sacramento the train was at full speed when a truck either didn't see or didn't care that the crossing signals were down. The train hit the cab of the truck dead center and opened the trailer like a can opener. The trailer was full of cans of Hershey's Chocolate Syrup. The engine of the train jack-knifed and was lying on its side on fire on the right side of the tracks. When we got off the train on the left, the fog was so thick you couldn't see the smoke from the fire, just on occasional glimpse of orange flames. When I first stepped off the train, I thought there was oil everywhere, until I looked closer and saw it was all chocolate syrup. The old Smothers' Brothers' song "I Fell into a Vat of Chocolate" kept going through my head... So don't try to tell me there's no fog in CA. -- rgds-- TA (tallard@frb.gov) I don't speak for the Federal Reserve Board, it doesn't speak for me.
