It also serves to accustom people to the idea that everyone carries
government-issued picture ID.  So now we have the absurdity of the DMV
issuing non-driver's licenses.  I refuse on principle to get any such
thing.  What next?  A non-dog license since I don't own a dog?  A
non-pilot's license for me to whip out if I'm ever on a plane whose
pilot keels over dead, to excuse me from having to save the day?

National ID cards and travel papers are un-American.  I suggest
that everyone do as I do and refuse to obtain any government-issued
anything.  All I ask of government is that it leave me alone.

I agree.  I never drove a car, in part because driving is said to be a
privilege, not a right.  I don't want any privileges.

A motorist once shouted at me as I was bicycling on Route 7, Leesburg
Pike, that that highway was for cars.  I caught up to him at the next
red light and asked him how it could have been built for cars given
that it was completed in 1820.  He had no answer.
