10 seconds is 900 ft at interstate speeds.  That seems excessive.  3-4
seconds is greater than the minimum recommended, and so in heavy
traffic, people will think you a loon and probably trreat you worse
because of that.

You are living a self fulfiling prophecy.  You drive in a way that
others percieve as poor and you get treated as such, and then complain
about it.

Drive like everyone else for a week or so and see what it feels like.
