It will happen about the same time people stop creatively trimming usenet
posts.

Yes, it is ridiculous Tony. I was told it by a chippie on Lincoln next to
LAX in 1973 (a controlled-access part of hwy 1). It would have made sense
at that time (in a stupid sort of way), and it is entirely possible that
strange things put into law that make sense at one particular time don't
get removed. However, as I'm sure you all know from following these threads,
there is no reckless driving specific speed. The cite in answer to that
referred to above turned out to be incorrect.

The chippie was very mad at me. I was doing 110 and cussing at my carb for
not going faster, and it took a while for him to catch me on his Harley. Then
he almost rear-ended me because I immediately let off the gas when he turned
on his lights. Then my (then-new) CLEP plates apparently confused the radio
dispatcher. I think he didn't throw me in jail because he didn't want to
deal with the paper work. He told me he would have to if he wrote me up
for 80 or above, then gave me a ticket for 78 in a 50 zone. The judge
suspended my license for 6 weeks or something.
