A few days ago, I saw a car zooming through urban expressway traffic at about 90 mph. It was very disruptive to the whole traffic stream. Like a broker-field runner stiff-arming the other players. It brought to mind a news article I saw a couple years ago. It was on I-95 in Miami at rush hour. A guy in a full-sized Mercedes was going 100 mph. He was impatient with the urban traffic, so he did numerous tailgatings, and numerous lane-changes. He finally lost control of his car, and it went off the side of the road, and hit a guard rail end-treatment (the type that slopes into the ground). The car ramped up, became airborne, and the car slammed into a retaining wall. Highway patrolmen said that the car literally painted itself onto the wall. The first trooper that examined the wreckage was so sickened by what he saw that he vomited his guts out. It took three hours before they could identify the identity of the driver and the registration of the car. He had to be shoveled up. What's the point of this article? One, after a high-speed crash, people don't care (sometimes even know) what kind of a ride you had. The car always looks like a pile of junk. Second, his velocity might have been appropriate on I-94 in Montana, but not on I-95 in Miami at rush hour. Three, thankfully he didn't hit anyone else. -- Scott M.
