No. I have been driving almost as long as some of the more juvenile posters in
ALE have been on the planet. Based upon my observations of the driving public,
people who speed "with any regularity" (most of the time) have, IMHO, usually
also been dangerous. I know plenty of LEOs and professional drivers and the
occasional regular guy/gal who drive fast on occasion and they do so very well.
What I point out above is that your average run-of-the-mill speeder does so
without regard to the situations, and without planning ahead.

I drive through this one particular town often on the weekend. As you go toward
town, the speed drops from 45 to 30 (20 if school is in session.) The average
speed (when I am not in the way) seems to be 40-45. After you crest the hill,
(often too late,) drivers realize that there is a small but very busy village, and
they are already in it. People on foot crossing to go to the diner or the old
country store, churchgoers on Sunday, people backed up because there are no
shoulders and the lead person wants to go left. . . .

I just think that, like the people who come into ALE trying to push the
legalization of drugs, drivers who have a heavier foot and are really good at it
don't realize that they are the minority. Plus, you have to share the road with
all the idiots who can't even reach the speed limit.

Like that sig,
