I have been wondering whether people would like dc.jobs to stay the same as it is now, or to make it into an entire hierarchy. There currently are about 12477 headers in the dc.jobs newsgroup, as of July 2, 1999. This takes a while to load even on a fast system; furthermore, the dc.jobs FAQ says that resume posting is frowned upon in that group. Currently people are advised to post resumes in misc.jobs.resumes, but some people might prefer to post their resumes only in a regional newsgroup. I suggest renaming the current dc.jobs group to dc.jobs.offered, and creating new groups dc.jobs.offered.entry, and dc.jobs.resumes. This would make the dc.jobs groups similar to the misc.jobs groups: it would allow the posting of resumes in a local group, and it would give people a place to look for entry-level jobs. Does anyone have any comments? If people like the idea then perhaps I should write up a longer proposal, similar to an RFD. -- Jonathan D. Loo, P.O.
