Jeez, talk about burdening humans with bureaucracy! Methinks you got it half right. IMHO, the moderation should be prescreened by a bot... and that's all. Not even humans afterward. If the PTBs want to, they can tweak the bot rules to bar, for example, crossposts to talk.politics.* or some such, rather than burdening the humans with deciding on each individual post (that might lead to such an exclusion). That said, if the sole duty of the "moderators" is to tweak the bot rules as requested by the populace, I'd accept the post... but I do NOT want to have to prescreen even what passes a 'bot. Maybe we could have a monthly posting of the current 'bot rules, followed by a vote of what rules to add/remove/change, requiring at least 10 different people, plus approval by a majority of the moderators, to make any such move. 'Puters are Real Good at doing repetitive drudge work over and over and over and over and <smacks self> I think that's all that's needed here, at least for now. If that proves insufficient, THEN maybe we can talk about human moderators. (Er, that's humans as moderators, not things that moderate humans, useful as that might be.) -- Dave Aronson, Sysop, Air 'n Sun (airnsun.pcbuddy.com) @ +1-703-319-0714 Opinions MINE, not by GeoCities/Template/Mensa/NRA/SCA/CAUCE/USGov/God!
