***************************************************** You are invited to the second in a series of debates put on by the Democracy Online Project's National Task Force: "Privacy & Online Politics: Is online profiling doing more harm than good for citizens in our political system?" Thursday, December 6, 2001 12:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. Holeman Lounge National Press Club 529 14th St., NW, 13th Floor Washington, D.C. **************************************************** The debate will feature: Scott Harshbarger, President and CEO of Common Cause and Jeffrey A. Eisenach, President of The Progress & Freedom Foundation and will moderated by Marvin Kalb, Executive Director, Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics, and Public Policy, Washington, D.C. Though it has received less attention than e-commerce, e-politics should not be left out of the privacy debate! Indeed, one can argue political activity is more deserving of a zone of privacy than is commerical activity. As techniques for compiling and distributing personal political information become more sophisticated, and as private information becomes more readily accessible, it is important to look at its affect on political participation and organization in our political system. The debate will also take a close look at online privacy since September 11th and the recent passage of the Patriot Act. You wont want to miss this exciting exchange! The cost is FREE but seating is limited.
