On Tuesday, May 14, Jose Ramos Horta will speak on the ongoing
genocide in East Timor.

7:30 pm at the Washington Peace Center, 2111 Florida Ave. NW
(entrance at Decatur St.). Also appearing will be Amy Goodman of
Pacifica Radio. This event is sponsored by DC ETAN.

Jose Ramos Horta is Special Representative of the Council of Maubere
Resistance, the umbrella for East Timorese organizations supporting
self-determination for the former Portuguese colony, which was
invaded by Indonesia in 1975. Since then, more than 200,000
people (one-third of the population) have been killed. The United
States government has provided weapons including a proposed
sale of F-16 fighters and diplomatic support to Indonesia
throughout the prolonged war and military occupation.
