Apparently I ruffled many feathers when I suggested that suburbanite
city-bashers stay out of DC.

Why did I do this?

On any given night (especially Friday and Saturday), I can walk out on
my stoop, look up the street, and see nothing but wall-to-wall
traffic, jamming my streets as thousands upon thousands of
suburbanites flock into the city to do whatever it is they do here.
Most of the license plates read "Virginia", many read "Maryland", and
a precious few read "District of Columbia".

It makes my wonder, why, if this city has absolutely no redeeming
value (as many counter-posters insist), do these people return
night-after-night-after-night.

If this was truly such a horrible place, why would people spend the
time commuting, money parking, and general chaotic conditions to get
here.

When it comes to DC bars and clubs, suburbanites are like flies on
shit. Then, when they go home, they tell everyone what a horrible,
hellacious place this is, just to return the next night.

It truly defies all sense of logic. I am beggining to think that DC
bashing has become a kind of "sour-grapes" cry from DC wannabe's, who
just can't survive here on a daily basis.

When someone like Troy or Richards posts, that there are nothing but
crackheads and indigents here, I cannot help but wonder why I have all
the "Virginia" cars parked in front of my place every single night.
Are THEY here to buy crack too?

Apparently DC does have a GREAT appeal to a vast many suburbanites. I
know this because I live here and I see it nightly.

Also, it would seem that a huge amount of suburbanites that are not on
the 'net constantly, have a great attraction to this place. When I
read some of these postings about how everybody hates this place, then
I walk outside and see you all of you here, it makes you all seem
ludicrous, and that you live in a vacuum somewhere.

Bash DC if you must. I hate the majority of things about this place.
People ask me for money every 5 seconds, there is trash in the
streets, the mayor is an idiot, etc, etc.

However, my moving to the suburbs won't change anything, and
furthermore, as a life time city dweller (NYC & here), I have no
desire to live in the 'burbs. Virginia has a traffic problem that
looks insane. Who would want to commute for hours just to get to this
hellhole. You guys seem to have more ambition to GET here, than I
have to STAY here.

Not all DC residents are idiots. Most of us DO see the hypocrisy of
your comments.

Thank you :)
