hello,
small problem, probably already covered a million times, but...
as part of my XDM login screen, I display a small oclock. the problem is/was,
it doesnt seem to want to die when xlogin hands off to
$USER/.xinitrc|.xsession.
when i spawn the Oclock process in Xsetup_0, i also store its pid with 'echo
$! > /tmp/oclock.pid'. i then put into the xdm Xsession file the command 'kill
`cat /tmp/oclock.pid`. since i was kludging this together with the root
account, that was the account i was using for testin (i know, bad practice.)
for login on the root account, this works. however, for a normal USER login,
it doesnt. this puzzles me, because i thought that xdm/Xsession run programs
ran at root equivalent level. i thought that it should have killed the oclock
with ALL logins, not just under root.
thoughts/suggestions?
