Linux has two sorts of binaries: The old a.out binaries, which need libc 4, and the new ELF binaries, which need libc 5. Although the new ELF binaries that came with your new Red Hat CD work fine, older a.out binaries will break. To fix this: 1. Complain to Red Hat for not including libc 4 even when the libc maintainers specifically asked distributors to keep including it for just this reason. 2. Get libc 4.5.9 from tsx-11 and install it, carefully, according to the directions. -- Shields.
