If anyone else hveing this problem did what I did, then I have the solution. The kernel which was too big for LILO was not compressed. If you want to boot a kernel which resides on your hard disk, do 'make zImage' and you will find zImage in ./arch/i386/boot and you can just copy it to /vmlinuz. If you want to have the kernel on a floppy, 'make zdisk' and have an already formatted floppy ready. Now the puzzling thing is that I typed 'make zImage" in the top level directory, but the only place the "zImage" target is in a Makefile is down in the subdir. How the heck can this work. I WANT TO KNOW!! thanks, dion -- Dion Hollenbeck (619)597-7080x119 Email: hollen@vigra.com Senior Software Engineer Vigra, Inc. San Diego, California
