I have been having difficulty getting my Linux box set up properly. The (hopfully) last major thing to get working is my cdrom. I have a Mitsumi ATAPI drive, which works fine under DOS, but which Linux can't seem to handle, at least on the secondary IDE port. I have run the script in /usr/src/linux/drivers/block to make the /dev/hdcx and /dev/hddx "files", made sure I compiled in the proper iso9660 file system support and ide drivers, and read the README files relating to ide and ide-cd support. I get the message "DRDY error: status = 0xff" when the boot process gets to the step of mounting the cdrom. I tried using the command line bit "hdc = cdrom", but that made no difference, as was the case when I also added a command to disable autoprobing /dev/hdc. I then tried moving my cdrom to be a slave to my primary (bootable) disk on the primary IDE port (I straped the cdrom as slave - in the previous config, I had it as master and also tried it strapped as "cable select"). Then I got the error "bad superblock or incorrect file system" at the point in the boot where the cdrom should have mounted. Any suggestions anyone?? Thanks for your help, Jack -- Dr John H.
