g++: fixed and showpoint error messages

Hi.

I'm taking my first programming class (online, UMUC) and we're using
C++. I'm the only Linux user in the class. My program won't compile if
I use either the fixed or showpoint functions.

I took my code to a Windows Visual C++ program and got it to compile and
run. The TA for the class can get it to run, too, so I will be getting
credit for the program regardless of whether it runs on my machine, but
I want to know why I can't compile it on Linux.

My project2planB.cpp generates this message when I use the fixed
function and I try to compile it with g++:

project2planB.cpp: In function `int main ()':
project2planB.cpp:37: `fixed' undeclared (first use this function)
project2planB.cpp:37: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
for each function it appears in.)

My source header reads:
#include <iostream>
#include <cmath>
#include <iomanip>
using namespace std;

and my text book says iomanip includes fixed and showpoint. Is this not
true for Linux?

I'm using gcc-2.96 on Red Hat Linux 7.3.

If you know what's going on please send me a clue, or if you know of a
website that's comprehensible to rookies that would help me with this
then pointing me to it would be welcome.

Thanks,

Damon
