Recently I was over at the National Museum of American History and went through the new improved :-) exhibit on the 1st ladies. It used to be that NMAH's exhibit consisted of just the inaugural ball gowns hung on manequins, but they have changed this exhibit drastically. It is now a large and very well done examination of the role of the 1st lady in American political, social, and cultural history. The gowns are still there, but they have been restored and integrated into the new exhibit's narrative. It is well worth seeing. After you see that you might want to see the large doll's house White House which gives you a much faster tour than waiting in the full-scale WH's line. ---dave -- dave murphy djmurphy@wam.umd.edu uunet!haven!wam.umd.edu!djmurphy "Yeah, right."
