That's basically true. I would put it another way. People say
they're in favor of all the freedoms we have in America, but they
don't really care about those they're not involved in or have an
interest in. They seem to feel that if some law, possibly even
unconstitutional, limits or takes away the freedom of others, it
doesn't matter to them. Politicians pass laws based on the support
of the groups that support and vote for them, instead of a logical
analysis of the situation.

They should all remember Martin Niemoeller's observations in Germany:
"They came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I
wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak
up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they
came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a
Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left
to speak up."
--Martin Niemoeller

Someone applied it to what's been happening in the U.S.
"When they took the fourth amendment, I did not speak up because I
had nothing to hide. When they took the fifth amendment, I didn't
speak up because I knew I was innocent. When they took the second
amendment, I didn't speak up because I don't own a gun. Now they are
taking the first amendment, and I cannot speak up at all."
