The "Heinz Nixdorf Symposium" is a series of workshops organized by the
Heinz Nixdorf Institute, the interdisciplinary research center for computer
science and technology of the University of Paderborn.

The potentials of parallel computing form a great challenge for research
and development in the fields of computer science as well as for the users.

That is why the three-day symposium focusses on "Parallel Architectures and
their Efficient Use". Current developments in the area of parallel computing
and their applications shall be discussed and future perspectives presented.

Leading experts of parallel computing have already committed themselves to
participate: F. Annexstein, J.C. Bermond, S. Bhatt, M. Cosnard,
              L. Johnsson, T. Leighton, C. Leiserson, F. Luccio,
              D. May, K. Mehlhorn, W. Paul, F. Preparata, M. Rabin,
              L. Rudolph, M. Snir, L. Snyder, H. Sudborough, E. Upfal,
              L. Valiant, U. Vishkin, J. Vuillemin.

A public day for a wider scientifically interested audience on November 11th
is part of the workshop. Five scientists of those listed above have agreed
to give their talk on this day:

C. Leiserson (MIT, Cambridge)
"The Network Architecture of the Connection Machine CM-5"

T. Leighton (MIT, Cambridge)
nn.

W. Paul (University of the Saarland, Saarbruecken)
"PRAMs: Theory, Physical Design and Applications"

F. Preparata (Brown University, Providence)
"Frontiers of parallel computing"

M. Snir (IBM Watson Research, Yorktown Heights)
"Scalable Parallel Software"

The workshop will be ended by a festive banquet in the town hall of
Paderborn.
