There are a few cases of appliances or devices thatwill not work well with a differnt mains frequency. I personally had an answering machine that could not work properly, and many clocks also will esxperience problems. The difficulties arise because these devices use the frequency of the electrical supply as the time base for their clocks. Another problem may be that some motors do no tolerate the change in frequency and may overheat.A fridge motor for instance will run faster at 60 HZ than at 50,it may overheat. There are no simple devices to change the current from 220v/50hz to 117v/60 hz. If you could specify what items you want to use in the USA,I could perhaps tell you the chances that they work well.
