Wanted : format for windows icons.

Does anyone have the format for windows icons ?. i.e what each byte is for. 
I believe it is in the SDK programmers reference manual. 
Also is there any C code (preferably TC V2.0) to display on screen or print 
icons ?
Any help would be appreciated.
