D E C U S NOP SIG -- Australia Day Message, 1994. ======================================================= This is a request for help from the whole computing community. Members of the DECUS Nostalgic and Obsolete Products Special Interest Group have been collecting vintage systems for some time. We are at the stage where we need some space to work on these systems and to prepare them for display. We eventually want to be able to set up working displays in a museum setting. Most of our systems fall into the mini-computer size and do not need any special power or cooling. There will be quite a few micro-computers to go on display as well. We have discovered that there are a lot of small collectors very eager to do something useful. We are mainly based in Sydney at this stage, and hope to get some space in the north-western suburbs. Main requirements are power, light, after-hours access and reasonable security. We plan to be able to contribute towards cost of electricity, etc. We would not refuse a city site if one was offered though. We hope initially to set up some basic workshop facilities and then assemble systems in running condition that would be available for school tours, etc. Do you have a General Manager, Managing Director or Chairman of the Board with a passion for vintage cars or similar who may be persuaded to become interested in vintage computers.? Does your organisation have any empty space out in the suburbs that is in danger of being vandalised if left empty and unused.? An example of an ideal site may be a small empty school with cool brick building; an empty hospital ward where there is good trolley and wheel-chair access. Please contact me via e-mail to IN%"geremin@decus.com.au" or phone 02-764 4855 or fax to 02-764 4679. Please spread this request via your colleagues and associates. John Geremin on behalf of the DECUS Sydney NOP SIG Activists. ------------------------------------------------------------- Regards, John G.
