It is the support newsgroup for the DOS program cppnews, a shareware
news and mail reader developed particularly to appeal to Demon
Internet customers using KA9Q as their news and mail agent (but
applicable to other users too).

As DOS programs are no longer popular, cppnews usage has decreased
markedly lately. There is still a core of users, though - I
understand DOS programs are useful for those with a visual
disability, as text-to-speech converters are available which work
well with DOS.

Just to wake everyone else up, I am currently porting cppnews to
Java, with a full graphical user interface. I hope to announce
JavaNews later this year.

But will I still be able to work it from a 3.5" floppy disk?

In advance of the "official" dos port of java??
I assume it will still be a dos app.
BTW did I see you say that you had a bcc port of cppnews?
If so I'll have to mail you about getting a copy...

I don't think he has, Rob, just of the windowing toolkit. It's been a
spare time project of mine for a while, but my C++ is lamentably weak
and BCPP is a rather newer compiler (hence more strict and with
different rules) than Zortech, so it's rather on the back burner at the
moment. I'd be delighted to swap notes though.

Me too, some day I must figure out how to stop it sending reminders :-)

Nope. It will be a Java application, which will (I hope) run on any
Java implementation you can find.

Nope, the user interface toolkit has been ported, but cppnews hasn't.

Good job sun have announced thier intention to port java to DOS then.

Oh well, I'll stick to manually editing all the headers then.
At least until my C improves a _lot_, or I buy zhortech's compiler.
