Hi, when I was hacking ka9q I did a lot of this kind of thing, as I recall it's possible to get a report that contains info about unused functions, you can really fine tune the binary using this. Unfortunately I don't have the Borland manuals to hand to point you at it. I also stumbled onto some info about the way DOS allocates memory. DOS allocates free memory from below 640K in preference to allocating it from above. I was able to get quite a bit of extra memory by forcing DOS to allocate memory from the high area before the low area. I've attached a zip file containing extramem.c - a module that changes the DOS memory allocation strategy. main.c - my changes to the main.c function to enable the extramem. makefile - ditto above. Tuning your config.sys/ autoexec.bat can really help, with extramem.c compiled in, I think I only had himem.sys and a mouse driver loaded. I was able to shell out of tiny textwin while online running several ftp sessions, news etc. Hope this helps, let me know how you get on if you use it. Iain Don't unzip this file into your ka9q source directory. section 1 of uuencode 5.22 of file extramem.zip begin 644 extramem.zip <uuencoded_portion_removed> ` end Iain Douglas
