ReWork - "optimises" KA9Q .wrk files (maybe...)

Along with Decapitate (see other post), I'm looking at writing a program
to process .wrk files before KA9Q runs.

The prime reason for doing this is to automatically (but optionally) send
all mail via a "smart host" such as post.demon.co.uk. It should be able
to handle exceptions (such as news.demon.co.uk, or local mail which
needn't leave the system at all).

I'm also looking at ways to reduce online time for mailing list managers
by catching mail being sent to several recipients at the same time where
one (or more) addressees are local, and generate a duplicate mail for
local delivery. (Typically, running a mailing list requires receiving
mail for the list, sending it out to the list, then receiving it again to
a local mailbox (assuming you have subscribed to the list yourself) -
this would cut out the final step.) The intention is to allow (say) every
10th mail to be sent as normal if desired (thus testing the mailing list
mechanism is working).

Alternatively, I might write mail to local mailboxes to
~/spool/mail/*.txt directly, thus not requiring you to run KA9Q at all to
deliver local mail. If I do this I will need to add "From " and
"Received: " lines to the rewritten mail - what is the correct format for
these?

Some handling of the alias file will be necessary, but I'll probably just
not process anything which has an alias listed for the time being.

Thoughts?

Mark.
