Some time ago someone (John Washington?) said that they had a version of
the SNEWS ADDGROUP program that generated names which bore some
resemblance to the newsgroup, rather than the usual time-based ones.
Could that someone let me have a copy, please?  Or at least the relevant
bit of code change...
