I wouldn't personally recommend Knuth unless you like algorithms
described in a mixture of spaghetti English and assembly language.
Yes, the maths is good, but you can get that elsewhere. A good modern
textbook is Cormen, Leiserson, & Rivest's Introduction to Algorithms
(MIT press).
