Hi everyone, RE: POP3 Mail Gateway for Win95 using MS-TCP/IP-Winsock I have been working with a small team of developers for a couple of months now on a POP3 mail gateway aimed specifically at Demon customers. We have now been evaluating revision 93a since September 22nd and feel that this version is suitable for public evaluation. We would be particularly interested in your comments and any problems you discover. Development is very definitely still in progress, and this is just an early test release in order to get some feedback. Although the system still has its problems, several people are currently using it quite confidently. The problem is that we haven't tested it on enough systems yet, so don't be surprised if you run into problems (if so we'll do everything we can to help). Here's the current feature list :- o "Lives" on the Win95/WinNT4 system tray o Multiple mailboxes o Local POP3 and SMTP servers o SMTP _and_ active POP3 clients o Finger Clients (+ automatic fingering) o Scheduled dial-up o Mailing lists - Moderated lists - Subscription by mail What we are currently working on :- o Local NNTP server to act as a local news gateway o Finger Server o Time client o Mail servers and autoresponders o Revisions to the database subsystem, mailing lists, fault-tolerance and user interface We are also considering development of Mail and News User Agents. More importantly, we will seriously consider any suggestions from you as to what you would like to see added. During development the software is free, but this is subject to review once complete. Even if it does eventually become commercial, we would like to see it available as shareware without any limitations. The on-line and supplied user documentation is sketchy, but this is being worked on. If you are unfamiliar with the concepts behind POP3 mailboxes and how to manage them, you may wish to wait for the documentation to be released first. For further details, see http://www.fastraq.demon.co.uk/post or email fps@fastraq.demon.co.uk. If appropriate, a mailing list will be setup and announced here. Thank you for your support, - Elric Pedder and - Dan Lyon - Simon Plant Note: Please address all email regarding this project to fps@fastraq.demon.co.uk
