Do you have the facility to issue net device assignments
from the command line (or batch file)?  If so you could
try temporarily remapping LPT1 during the SNEWS section
thereby hiding the real LPT1 - eg. in DEMON.BAT:
   ...
   :news
   cd C:\DEMON\SNEWS
>> {netassign} LPT1 \\BHK-OS2PC\LPT1
   snews
>> {netassign} LPT1 /DELETE
   if %ONCE%.==Y. goto end
   goto loop
   ...

Finally, I don't detect a great amount of support for the
'print lpt1' resource option, but if you'd like me to build
a one-off from the official snews130 sources, I'll happily
do that.  Probably best to send me mail (to just 'pete')
as this isn't (apparently) of general d.i.d interest.
